Gov Grant Programs

Gov Grant Programs

The United States has been providing self-help national grants programs and low interest loans to its citizens since the days of Abraham Lincoln. The biggest obstacle is that so many of these national grants programs are simply very hard to find.

There are 1,000 Federal Programs, 24,000 State Programs, 30,000 Private Foundations and 20,000 Scholarship Programs. There are now more than 1,500 government Grants Programs available through 57 different federal agencies programs available today.
In addition, there are billions of dollars of national grants money from thousands of private sources
and they include:

* $151.5 Billion in grants for small businesses
* $186.1 Billion grants towards housing and healthcare
* $86.4 Billion towards grants for students and college graduates
* $93.4 Billion in grants for personal needs and cash awards
* $57.5 Billion in grants for minorities
* $99.7 Billion in grants for women
* $96.5 Billion towards research grants
* $38.5 Billion grants towards community development
* $103 Billion in grants for non-profit organizations

Types of Funding

1. Grants- A grant is money that's given for a specific purpose that you may not have to pay back. If you qualify and follow the terms and conditions of why the money's being given, it's basically money you don't have to pay back, it's free money.

2. Loans- Some Direct Loans from the Government are as low as ZERO PERCENT, while others may only be as high as 3%. These loans must be paid back; however with these low rates, they are still a very good deal. Loans with low interest rates are normally made to entrepreneurs, homeowners and developers. In addition if you have been turned down by a bank, you may be able to borrow up to $150,000 with a special Small Business Administration (SBA) program that guarantees the loan.

3. Subsidies- Many states will help pay part of the interest on a loan you obtain from a local lender. You may also be able to obtain tax incentives such as tax rebates and tax credits with some Government programs to help subsidize your expenses.

Grant Sources

There are 3 major sources of national grants funding, Federal, State and Local which include counties, cities, towns and villages. The mistake many people make is that they might only try calling a government agency such as HUD, but HUD doesn't disperse the money in many of their programs. It goes instead to the local areas and it's the local governments that disperse the money. For example HUD has CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) money with over $4.7 billion available in 2007, so you would have had to contact the local government to find out what CDBG funding was available in your area and what the qualifications were.

Another little known fact is that 23% of the budget for the Federal and State government has to be made available to small business to compete with. The SBA (Small Business Administration) targets their funding to businesses with $5 million or less in revenues and 500 or less employees.

In addition, these sources have a lot of programs which target funding for minorities, disabled people, veterans and WOMEN.
